What about the 2D barcodes?
2D barcodes are a way to encode information, just like conventional barcodes - but 2D barcodes can encode significantly more. This information can be read by devices with cameras, such as cellphones.
2D barcodes have been common in Japan for a number of years. In fact, Japanese business cards often feature barcodes containing contact information. Such barcodes are starting to gain popularity in other countries as well.
We use mobile visual codes to provide a faster access to content. We provide links to third-party code readers to enable this experience. We currently support two types of mobile codes:
1) QR Code: Two-dimensional bar code created by Japanese Denso Wave in 1994, derived from Quick Response Code as it was created for high-speed decoding. For more information about the QR Code.
2) Datamatrix: A Data Matrix code is a two-dimensional matrix barcode consisting of black and white square modules arranged in either a square or rectangular pattern. The information to be encoded can be text or raw data. Data Matrix symbols are square and made of cells, that is little squares that represent bits. Depending on the situation a white module is a 0 and a black module is a 1, or vice versa.
